Hα Emission in Earth's Upper Atmosphere
I will discuss how I have been helping in the tough task of modeling the density of hydrogen within Earth's atmosphere. Currently, the models are simply just not satisfactory. I work to ameliorate the MSIS-90 model in particular by analyzing data gathered by the Wisconsin H-Alpha Mapper (WHAM) telescope. Using Fabry-Perot spectroscopy and the annular ring summing technique, University of Wisconsin researchers and affiliates have obtained much data as the hydrogen in the Earth's atmosphere emits Balmer α radiation.
